We’ve kept a close eye on all the rumored changes that Apple is planning for the Apple TV. The company’s “hobby” product is rumored to gain a ton of updates that will help Cupertino compete with cable companies in a different way. We thought existing Apple TV units would gain some of the fun, but today we learn that it might not.

Sources claim that the new Apple TV will sell along with the current one, being the newer one the premium model. This premium unit is rumored to be similar to the current one in design, but thicker. It’ll include a new type of touch-based remote control, an App Store and even support for Siri. The whole plan of giving users access to cable channels through a possible $40 subscription service might also happen after the launch, but the source claims that none of this is planned for the current Apple TV that we know.

We also hear that we shouldn’t expect a launch for this product until October, so those of you waiting for a new Apple TV on September 9 might just have to wait.
