Apple’s September iPhone event gets a rumored date: mark your calendars
These next several weeks are going to be big ones for new smartphone launches. Samsung Unpacked is next Thursday, and then we’ve just got a couple weeks to go before IFA rolls around and we look forward to the next wave of hardware announcements. After that, we’ve been expecting Apple to show off its latest iPhone models sometime in September, but so far we haven’t been able to narrow that window down by much. Apple’s yet to make anything official, but a fresh rumor out this afternoon attempts to give us an early heads-up before Apple sends out its own invites, claiming that this year’s iPhone launch event will fall on the same date as last year’s: September 9.
Well, that specific date might be a little loose, but sources claim we’re likely to see the event fall sometime during the week of September 7, and that Wednesday – September 9 – is currently looking like the strongest possibility.
Obviously, we’re looking forward to seeing Apple introduce the next-gen iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, but what might be even more interesting is the breadth of other products Apple brings along to share the spotlight. That could include not just the new Apple TV we’ve heard rumored, but also the company’s new iPads.
Rather than waiting for a separate tablet event a little later in the year, this time Apple might just go all-out for its September announcements, and hit the new iPhones and iPads all in one go. Sources are a little less confident about whether the 12.9-inch iPad will make an appearance, but new hardware for Apple’s existing size options sounds like a stronger possibility.
