Apple Music has reached 55% of Spotify’s subscriber base in one month
Even though Apple championed the digital music era for years, its reluctance to adopt a music streaming model has clearly taken a toll. Cupertino’s response with the launch of Apple Music has still not proven to be as good as Spotify, the service it pretty much copied and is trying to defeat. That said, the company doesn’t seem far from defeating it either, and today we learn more.
Apple’s Internet services SVP Eddy Cue has just told USA Today that Apple Music has 11 million trial members after a month of being in the market. Two million of these users signed up for family plans as well, extending these particular cases to up to 6 users. Given the fact that Spotify currently owns 20 million paid subscribers after years of being in the market, 55% is not a bad start for Apple. You also have to keep in mind that Apple Music currently only supports iOS, where as Spotify is available on all major platforms.
Cue also mentions that he’s aware of the bugs with the Apple Music launch, but he confirms that fast updates have been able to mitigate the problems.
Keep in mind these are trial users, that could decide to simply go back to their previous streaming services after three months. We’ll keep an eye on these numbers two months from now, when it will really matter.
