Spotify suggesting iOS users to save on the $3 Apple Tax

Music streaming competition has existed for a while now, but it’s not until the birth of Apple Music that we see competitors sending blows at each other. Spotify spent a great deal of time with both US and European antitrust investigators asking for help in stopping Apple from killing the freemium model we all currently enjoy. Obviously that was just the beginning, and today we learn of a new plan.

Spotify will apparently contact customers who purchased their Premium subscription through iTunes. The email will give users the option to save $3 on their monthly premium fee, given the fact that not all of this money goes to Spotify. For those of you that didn’t know, Spotify only costs $10 in the US, but given Apple’s non-negotiable 30% cut if you acquire things through iTunes, those users who have subscribed through Spotify using Apple services are paying $13. Obviously these extra $3 make Spotify look bad if compared to Apple Music, which starts at $10 a month in the case of users that stick to the iTunes Store for purchases.

This is definitely a fair measure on behalf of Spotify, but we wonder if Apple will take any measures against it.
