Samsung posts Galaxy S6 Active specs, including battery details
It sure feels like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is nearly ready to launch. Following a number of leaks last month, the latest press render emerged overnight, complete with AT&T branding. But for as certain as we’ve felt that this handset is just about ready to go official, important questions have remained, most notably when it comes to the handset’s hardware. Besides the obvious rugged treatment, would there be other departures from the regular Galaxy S6? Maybe a bigger (and dare we say removable) battery, or support for a microSD card? A complete support page for the GS6 Active has now been discovered on Samsung’s own servers, and if the information contained within is accurate (and that’s a big if), we may just have those answers.
At first glance, this looks like bad news for those of you holding out hope for the features we just mentioned, because these docs suggest most won’t be present on the Galaxy S6 Active. Instead, the phone is listed with a 2550mAh battery, just like on the S6 itself, and there’s not a hint of anything microSD-related.
However, there’s a glimmer of hope – maybe more than just a glimmer. The vast majority of the details listed on this page are copied point-for-point from the regular Galaxy S6 support page, suggesting they might be more like placeholder data until Active-specific info arrives to replace everything.
One telling bit there is how Samsung lists the Active as having the exact same external dimensions as the standard GS6, measurements that should almost certainly be different, what with the ruggedized body. There’s also the issue of the fingerprint scanner, which is listed here as present, when the Active isn’t expected to get such a feature.
That said, there are some minor formatting discrepancies between the Active data and the regular GS6 listing, possibly poking a hole in that copy-and-paste theory – for now, we’re just not sure.
