Pebble firmware update adds iOS 8 support and more
Android Wear and Apple Watch may be here (or in the case of the latter, just around the corner), but that doesn’t mean the folks over at Pebble aren’t constantly improving their popular wearables with software updates. The latest of which, the Pebble Firmware 2.5 update released today, brings many much-appreciated changes to what’s already one of the best wearable platforms out on the market.
First of all, the Pebble Firmware 2.5 brings emoji support. Previously, emoji showed up as rectangular boxes on the watch’s display, and now emoji will be able to accurately display – this will improve many a text message conversation for sure.
Magnetometer support has been enabled with the Pebble Firmware 2.5 update, which allows for compass and wayfinding apps to function properly. You can take a look at the compass in action yourself, by downloading Pebble’s Compass app onto your wristwatch.
One of the improvements that’s been made for iOS 8 is the ability to dismiss notifications (previously clearing a notification on your wrist didn’t remove it from your iOS Notification Center as well), and of course, there are also miscellaneous bug fixes and performance improvements. To update your Pebble to the Pebble Firmware 2.5, head into the companion app on Android or iOS and initiate the process from there.
