Sony SmartWatch 3 hands-on (Video)
So far this year, the rumor mill has been pretty good at predicting what to expect from IFA announcements. Sure, a few details have been off here and there, and we ended up getting the Note Edge after not really being sure what to expect, but most of the launches we’d be tracking ended up going pretty much as anticipated. We did get at least one big surprise at the Sony event, though, as the company launched its latest wearable: while we heard that its SmartWatch 3 wouldn’t join the growing contingent of Android Wear models, today’s announcement confirmed the opposite, as the SmartWatch 3 was announced as an Android Wear device. After checking out the Xperia Z3 itself, we gave this new wearable a hands-on look of its own.
Compared to some of the Android Wear models we’ve seen launch to date, Sony’s giving users a lot of customization options – or, at least, letting them buy the watch in a number of alternate colors.
Considering all the troubles we’ve heard about with charging issues for certain Android Wear models, the SmartWatch 3 offers a refreshingly straightforward solution: a plain-old micro USB port. Learn about that and the rest of the hardware decisions Sony’s made here as you watch our hands-on video below.
