Motorola price leaks: new Moto G, Shamu prototype
Motorola’s upcoming product announcements are starting to feel like they’re a done deal already. What hasn’t been nearly confirmed by Motorola itself through some not-too-subtle-at-all invite imagery, we’ve been piecing together ourselves thanks to no shortage of rumors and leaks. Those leaks have really been stepping things up in recent days, helping to answer some of our outstanding questions about this hardware. But this morning we switch gears from hardware details to pricing info, spotting a couple of these Moto handsets revealing their worth to India’s Zauba import database.
This coming Thursday’s Motorola event is almost certain to introduce a new Moto G model, one that could move up to a five-inch display. We’ve been associating that device with model number XT1068 going back a couple months now, and a few days ago a number of listings for it appeared in those import logs. Those reveal shipments of the phone in white and black, both with 16GB of storage, and with pricing that works out to about $175. The actual retail sticker price may be slightly higher, but that’s still a refreshingly low number, especially after previous leaks had suggested we could be looking at $250 on up.
Maybe even more interesting than the G2, we have some new evidence of the Motorola model codenamed Shamu. Is it the new Nexus? Maybe the first Android Silver device? However it actually arrives, it’s now appearing more real than ever, called out by name as a prototype ships from the US to India. With a stated value that comes out to nearly $580, it’s clear this is a relatively high-end handset, though if that price precludes it from being a Nexus model remains to be seen. If it is to be, we sure hope this figure here’s a bit inflated.
