Apple’s iWatch announcement could be big tease, with sales delayed until 2015

Between those new rumors about HTC wearables, and the surprise pre-IFA launches of the LG G Watch R and Samsung Gear S just the other day, we’ve totally got smartwatches on the brain. We’ve also been thinking a lot about Apple’s plans for its next product launches, especially with that invite for a September 9 event going out yesterday; would the iWatch be featured? We heard a rumor just the other day specifically saying that this would be a dual iPhone/iWatch event, but now we’re doubting just how useful that iWatch announcement might be, as we get word that sales of the smartwatch might not get underway until 2015.

There have been plenty of rumors of iWatch delays before, but many of them had been focusing on availability more towards the end of 2014, with Apple getting the wearable out in time for lucrative holiday season sales.

This new report doesn’t offer a firm date for the start of iWatch availability, instead talking in vague “not anytime soon” terms, but the general tone of these accounts from multiple sources is now suggesting that even a very late 2014 launch might no longer be a possibility.

Knowing Apple, it could still do a hell of job selling us on a product that won’t be out for another four or five months, so we’re still very much looking forward to that September event (and not to mention the next-gen iPhones that will be there). But we can still be a little bummed about a product with so much buzz around it that could still be quite a ways off.
