Smartwatches are promising to be some of the real spotlight-stealers at IFA next week, where models like a new curved-display, cellular-connected Gear from Samsung, and that round-faced LG G Watch R are expected. Last week, we saw ASUS start dropping hints that it, too, was preparing to introduce a smartwatch at IFA, one rumors had previously suggested could be the lowest-priced Android Wear model to date, by a wide margin. The company followed that up with some additional teasers, revealing design sketches, and now it’s back with a short video and a name for this smartwatch: the ASUS ZenWatch.
Besides the name, the video also gives us a much better look at the actual watch hardware. Compared to the boxy LG G Watch in particular, the ZenWatch looks far more organic. Then again, we’ve yet to see this guy powered-on, and while a smoothly contoured body may look nice from a design standpoint, it’s not necessarily going to be the best fit for a display with hard right-angle corners. Just what will the bezel situation end up looking like?
ASUS will be among the other manufacturers making its IFA announcements on September 3, putting us just one week away from getting the full picture on the ZenWatch.
