When Android Wear was announced earlier this year, two launch partners became known: LG, and Motorola. Later, Samsung also joined in with the Gear Live, as both it and the LG G Watch went official at Google I/O 2014. The Moto 360 was still absent at the time, with a vague “coming later this summer” for a release date. With all that time we had to wait, LG has apparently had enough time to knock out a second Android Wear product, with this one being squarely (roundly?) aimed at the Moto 360: a round LG G Watch, better known as the LG G Watch R.
Nothing much about this wearable becomes known through the trailer video, but one thing is clear: this is meant to be a ferocious attack against the Moto 360. About 15 seconds in, there’s a neat animation rounding an almost-round shape with the words “Feel the gap” (we hope LG meant to say “Fill the gap” instead). This can easily be seen as a dig at the fact that the Moto 360 isn’t entirely round, with there being a strip at the bottom allegedly for the ambient light sensor and other internals.
Most of the info about the watch has been saved for the big IFA 2014 reveal next week in Berlin – where we’ll have boots in the ground in the form of Michael Fisher and Taylor Martin – but this certainly gives us something to be excited about.
