We’re just a couple of weeks way from the rumored announcement of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, and a couple of months away from the possible announcement of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 and the iWatch. Many sources have been fumbling with conflicting rumors regarding the availability of a sapphire display on any of these products, but it seems that one very credible source has some new insight on how things will play.
The Wall Street Journal has just reported that Apple is still planning to use sapphire on the iPhone 6, though not every iPhone will get some love. We’re still not sure if sapphire will be an optional feature, but the source claims that Apple will feature this on the more expensive iPhone 6 models. The source also claims that Apple will feature a sapphire display on the iWatch, though no hints were provided on a possible launch date for Apple’s wearable.
This would be the second time we hear rumors of Apple leaving sapphire for its most expensive iPhone variants, but the level of credibility of this source makes it hard to question the probabilities of this happening. Apple has made significant investments on GT Advanced technologies in order to have enough Sapphire for this year’s products, and even though timing seams agains tthis being possible, anything could happen from here to September 9th.
