A new trend has arisen in the US over the last few years: switching to prepaid plans. Though prepaid plans have their quirks, the pros generally outweigh the cons when you compare them with most postpaid plans nowadays. To that end, T-Mobile has been one of the more popular prepaid destinations, with popular plans ranging from just $30 a month. Today, the company has announced that it has taken the #1 prepaid wireless spot in the United States.
T-Mobile USA now has 15.64 million customers on its prepaid network, though this total includes the recently-acquired MetroPCS’s connections. MetroPCS accounts for an enormous portion of that number, boasting over 10 million customers and an impressive growth rate of about one customer over 27 seconds. In case you were craving additional MetroPCS stats, the company has gained 1.2 million customers in the last year. With this kind of growth, it doesn’t look like T-Mobile will be easily overtaken in the near future.
T-Mobile as a whole (prepaid and otherwise) now has over 50 million customers, and has been leading the wireless industry’s growth for a while now — largely because of its many “Uncarrier” moves, the seventh of which is set to be announced later in the summer.
