Microsoft to launch a selfie phone and another high-end Windows Phone soon?

Microsoft’s launch of Windows Phone 8.1 has proven to be as cool as it is odd. We do praise everything we’ve seen in our extensive review coverage, but that doesn’t change the fact that the company has only launched a few devices running it. If you’re wondering when we’ll see some dedicated Windows Phone 8.1 hardware, the answer could be just around the corner.

Sources close to Microsoft mention that Stephen Elop showed off two devices in an internal company meeting last week. The first of the two is apparently codename “Superman,” and according to the source, is Microsoft’s selfie phone for the market. The device will reportedly sport a 5 megapixel front-facing camera, though we don’t have much detail on the rest of its specifications, aside from a 4.7-inch display.

The other smartphone is codename “Tesla,” and everything points to this being the successor of the Lumia 720. Microsoft is dubbing it as an “affordable high-end phone,” but not a flagship as we’ve seen from other Lumia models that are already out. This device will sport PureView technology according to the rumors, and its design is very similar to the existing Lumia 930.

A launch for these devices is rumored to happen soon, though no specifics were given. We’ll report back as soon as we learn more about them.
