LG breaks record with 14.5 million smartphones shipped

LG breaks record for smartphones shipped as the South Korean manufacturer has published its quarterly results. Aside from growth in the TV sector, LG is entitled to bragging with its 14.5 million smartphones shipped in the second quarter of the year.

That represents a 20 percent growth compared to the same period of last year, while a third of all the units shipped were LTE-capable devices. Sales increased 16 percent from Q2 of 2013 to USD 3.51 billion, which represents an all time high for the company since Q1 2010. Operating profit for the mobile division is USD 83.4 million for the second quarter, which also manages to stop an unlucky streak of three consecutive quarters of losses.

The growth, and positive numbers, are mainly due to the LG G3, which was very well received on markets like LG’s home turf, alongside the L Series of devices. The G3 is becoming available in more and more regions, and soon will be joined by the recently announced G3 Beat.
