Philips smartphone next to vie for “thinnest” crown?

Philips may not be a significant player in the west when it comes to its line of smartphones, but that doesn’t mean that these aren’t relevant. The company has a very significant market in Asia, and this is mainly due to the way its smartphones innovate, particularly in the battery sector. Today we get new details on a Philips I908, and it seems the company wants us to focus on how thin it is.

The Philips i908 is apparently the smaller sibling of the recently-launched i928. Its specifications include a 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor, a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera. Very decent specifications for a device that is apparently going to be very thin if we let the company’s teaser lead us. Sadly there are no dimensions being mentioned, but given the fact that there are devices like the Oppo R3 at just 6.3mm and even last-year’s Umeox X5 starting at 5.3mm in thickness, the competition will be strong.

Philips is currently focused on the Chinese market, though the fact that its a Dutch company, might mean that Europe could be a market that it’ll tackle in the future.
