AppleCare+ has a new 60-day purchase window
One benefit that many people have found in owning Apple iOS products is the combination of its AppleCare+ extended warranty, and Apple’s Genius Bar service. For $99 you receive two years of warranty protection for any iPad or iPhone, and in case of any accidental damage to the device on your part, you could replace your iPad for $49, or iPhone for $79, with a total of two incidents being covered. Sadly if you didn’t purchase the warranty when you bought the product, the most you were allowed to wait was 30 days, though Apple has just decided to change that.
As of yesterday Apple is now offering customers a 60-day purchase period for AppleCare+. You can purchase any iPhone or iPad today, and use it actively for 2 months before you decide to purchase the extended warranty. Apple is also canceling the regular AppleCare service that we knew before, where all you received was an extra year of warranty, but no options to replace devices that you’ve damaged.
If you’re still within that 60-day window, you can call AppleCare’s support service and receive diagnostics and the option for a purchase over the phone, or you can always just visit any Apple Store for the upgrade. At times when neither the iPad nor the iPhone are waterproof, and given the flat replacement fee exceeds $250 in most cases, AppleCare+ is actually a deal.
