LG confirms specifics about start of G Watch sales

Watching the Play Store like a hawk for the first sign of those initial Android Wear smartwatches arriving? You’re not alone, after Google announced earlier today that both the LG G Watch and brand new Samsung Gear Live would be going up for order. It looks like we could be seeing those sales get underway in just another hour or so, at 4pm Pacific (7p Eastern, 11p GMT), but before that happens, we’ve already picked up a few important details about how the G Watch will be sold.

LG confirms that pre-orders of the G Watch will begin today, but we’ve heard that shipments won’t get underway until July 7. Orders will be open today to shoppers in the United States, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Korea, and Japan, with additional nations (including Australia, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, and Russia) coming soon.

The G Watch will set users back just about $230; not the most expensive smartwatch around, but not the most affordable, either. Does this mean that the Moto 360 could be closer to $300? We’ll be finding out later this summer.

Update: Sales are now live, and the G Watch ships from the Play Store even earlier than LG said – on July 3.
