New leak reveals possibility of upcoming Microsoft smartwatch

Everyone seems to want to have a crack at making a smartwatch, Microsoft seemingly notwithstanding. If this latest report is to be believed, the company is indeed hard at work on a wrist-mounted wearable with a custom Windows build to boot.

The watch reportedly features a flat, elongated display, though not freakishly large as one’s imagination might assume. The inner portion resting against the user’s skin is curved, allegedly, and the display itself is said to be fairly low-resolution.

GearLive refers to the device as “the Surface watch,” and reports that it has a similar interface (read: live tiles and flatness) as other new Windows products.

The watch reportedly uses Bluetooth LE to connect to iOS, Android, OS X, Xbox One, and Windows, featuring multiple trackers for health and activity tracking as well. These include a heart rate monitor (all the rage these days), accelerometer, gyroscope, and GPS tracking unit.

There’s also reportedly a connection to gaming, which would make sense as Microsoft also is the maker of the well-known Xbox gaming platform.
