We’re on a bit of a Samsung roll this morning, and before we turn our attentions elsewhere, there’s one more report we’ve run across that seems worth bringing your way. Lately we’ve spent a lot of time talking about the Galaxy S5 Prime/Galaxy F/SM-G906/KQ/Lentis – all those different names alone (assuming they really all even represent the same device) are enough to make your head spin. With the timetable we’re likely looking at, this phone could arrive right around the same time as the next-gen Note model. Today we take a closer look at both devices, as well as what new Exynos chips might power them.
Let’s start with the Exynos stuff, as all these rumors are inextricably linked to the chips. We heard a report back in April that KQ would run an Exynos 5430, built on a new 20nm process. Instead, we’re now hearing that Samsung may pass the 5430 up in favor of a 5433, an SoC with the codename HelsinkiPro. It’s unclear how it may differ from the 5430, but is presumably slightly more capable.
On the S5 Prime side, word is that while the initial KQ project was canceled, it lives on as the quad HD model we’ve been following, and the device we ultimately get wouldn’t be a true GS5 successor – this sounds like evidence in favor of Galaxy F naming. We’re also told that it may be exclusive to South Korea, which would fit with all those South Korean carrier variants we’ve seen for the G906.
While that might not be a Galaxy S model, such a more direct GS5 sequel would still be coming at some point, and it too might run an Exynos 5433 (along with an Intel radio). But as to just how this handset would differ from the G906, we can’t yet say.
Finally, we’ve got some Note 4 rumors to paw through. We hear about a number of carrier and regional variants (no surprise there), with claims that a Snapdragon 805 will power the North American and a number of Asian models, while Europe would see a 5433-based version. The Note 4 would end up with a quad HD screen like the Galaxy F, but this source doesn’t weigh-in on its size. And for a camera, the Note 4 could get a 16-megapixel Sony sensor with optical stabilization.
There’s still a lot of uncertainty in the details here, especially when it comes to the Galaxy F, but hopefully we’re finally starting to get to the bottom of Samsung’s plans.
