There was little doubt that the Galaxy S5 Active exists, thanks to all the leaks we’ve seen recently. But, with water resistance already present on the Galaxy S 5, many were wondering about the purpose of an Active phone. As a reminder, last year’s Galaxy S4 Active brought IP57 over the standard build of the S4, but in 2014, Samsung wants you to be (more) active.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is now also shock resistant, and has a dustproof casing — IP67 & MIL-spec 810G — (in addition to being water resistant like its classic sibling). Underneath the ruggedized body you can find a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 5.1 inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2GB or RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card), a 16MP camera at the back, as well as the heart-rate monitor found on the GS5. A 2,800mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat make sure the phone runs smoothly and radio compatibility includes 4G LTE functionalities.
Cameo Green, Titanium Gray, and Ruby Red color variants are available, and the phone will set you back $199.99 on a two-year agreement, or $714.99 outright.
