Gesture-packed Samsung round smartwatch could be on the way, reveals patent application
The Moto 360 will likely have many competitors following its release, and it looks like one of those devices will be manufactured by Samsung. When you first rest eyes upon the picture above, you may instantly think Moto 360, but there is a lot more to it, according to this particular patent application.
Some of the renders spotted show various things we’ve grown accustomed to on Samsung smartwatches (and others). Different watch faces, weather tracking, and fitness apps have all been simulated on the device, though we have no specs available to confirm anything.
The cool part about some of the other renders is that the main round part can be detached from the watch straps and used either with another kind of holster, or standalone. Imagine a use-case as a TV remote, or as a pendant on a necklace.
In terms of hardware (though we do not have any specs, as mentioned previously), this patented design has a camera, similar to Samsung’s Gear family of smartwatches, right in the wristband. It is also placed slightly lower from what we can tell, which should make taking pictures of people from the watch a lot more enjoyable experience. How these pictures will turn out is a whole different question.
Several gestures to activate and perform camera actions are also mentioned — be sure to check out the USPTO link to see this and the rest of the renders. As always, a patent does not necessarily mean that this product will ever become real; we could be months or even years away from this becoming a reality.
