Sony Xperia Z2 now available for US shoppers who just can’t wait

Last week Sony teased smartphone fans across the US with the publication of an image seeming to reveal its flagship Xperia Z2 with Verizon branding. Was the Android really going to see carrier support in the States? The official word came down that the posting was a mistake, but it sure did manage to pique our interest. Even if Verizon never does warm to Sony’s offerings, smartphone users in the US will still get a chance to pick up the Xperia Z2 from Sony directly in a couple months – look for those unlocked sales to kick-off this summer. But if even that sounds too far away, retailers are already stepping-up to fill the Z2 gap, and this week we learn about one doing just that, with GSM Nation starting sales of the Z2 in the US.

The retailer has the unlocked, 16GB Xperia Z2 available in all three launch colors for just about $800. Even though this model isn’t designed specifically for US operation, the right band support is present for use on either AT&T or T-Mobile, including LTE.

We’ve spotted other retailers offering the Z2 to US shoppers, but they’re either still in the pre-order phase (like at Negri) or more expensive than GSM Nation is offering here (as we see with Amazon sellers). For what it’s worth, the Z2 is going for nearly 600 GBP in the UK, which works out to well over 1000 USD – presumably, Sony will deliver the Z2 to the US for considerably less than that, but it still makes this $800 price tag a lot easier to swallow in comparison.
