iPhone contributes to GS5 success with trade-ins on the rise

Samsung is expecting the Galaxy S 5 to outsell last year’s GS4, and the expectations so far seem to match the events on the market, as this year’s flagship is doing pretty well in its initial stages of availability. According to a Telegraph report, former iPhone users have a big merit in all this, as, apparently, over one third of those who upgraded to the GS5 taking advantage of a trade-in program were ex-iPhone owners.

Most customers were coming from an iPhone 4S, generating a more than 200% increase in iPhone trade-ins — according to CompareMyMobile, quoted by The Telegraph — followed closely by those who traded in their Samsung Galaxy S III devices (196% rise), and those who considered the GS5 is better than their iPhone 5S (184%).

These are not, by far, global numbers — though they testify to the fact that the iPhone contributes to GS5 success — but they’re closely following the trend of recent years, since Samsung and Apple’s device launches are leapfrogging, with the South Koreans releasing their flagship at the beginning of the year, and Cupertino towards the end of it.
