Last week we heard about the possible Microsoft post-Windows Phone 8.1 update strategy, namely that three GDR updates might be in the works (GDR1 and GDR2 for this year, and GDR3 for possibly early 2015). While these, at the moment, are just rumors, a new report has surfaced trying to shed more light on GDR2 (as GDR1 is allegedly going to be a bug fix release).
Unverified sources claim that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 will add support for 2K resolution displays, alongside the addition of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 SoCs. These are, according to Qualcomm’s own claims, quad core Krait 450 CPUs clocking at up to 2.7GHz per core, helped by the Adreno 420 GPU. Whether or not all the features of the SoC, described by the manufacturer, will be supported/implemented is yet unknown, as the report is, at the moment, unverified, and based on anonymous sources.
