The HTC One M8 is now a reality, but what’s next for the manufacturer? We’ve heard rumors about a possible One M8 Mini, which might be gearing up for a May debut, but that’s really it; at least so far, there’s been no strong suggestion that a new Max version is forthcoming. But today we find ourselves reconsidering HTC’s next aspirations for its One M8 line, with the leak of the render you see above, supposedly depicting an HTC M8 Ace.
So what do we have here? Well, with a casual glance you might see a red One M8, but there’s more going on here than just a color change. For one, there’s an odd texture expanding all across the handset’s top and bottom, kind of like woven fabric. It’s not depicted in enough detail for us to come to a solid conclusion, but it almost looks like a 3D-printed case.
That’s not the only abnormality here. We also notice the cutout surrounding the front-facing camera is much narrower than on the One M8 itself, and that the phone’s shape doesn’t precisely align with the released handset – specifically, in the image we see here the corners stick out farther and are less smoothed-off than on the One M8, and the volume rocker here appears to be a smidge higher up than we’re familiar with (see our comparison below).
What does all that tell us about the M8 Ace? Well, not a whole lot, but size-wise this appears to be about the same as the original – so probably not a Mini nor Max. But is this a regular M8 in a weird case or something else altogether? Until some new info arrives, that mystery’s going to remain.
