It was two months ago when we last looked at the official Android distribution numbers, and, many things have changed since, even if nothing really changed. Back in February, Jelly Bean was in the lead, followed by Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, and then KitKat, and today, the order looks to be the same, though the numbers have changed a bit.
61.4% of devices still run one version or the other of Jelly Bean (4.1.x, 4.2.x, or 4.3), up from 60.7% back in February. Ice Cream Sandwich is down a couple of points, and so is Gingerbread, while KitKat is seeing a significant growth. However, despite more than doubling its share from 1.8% in February to 5.3% in March, it still represents a very small chunk of the market, running stock on Nexus devices, while others (like Samsung and HTC’s flagships) are just now gradually getting their OTA updates — new devices are luckily shipping with KitKat preinstalled.
