Nokia’s services have proven to be one of the biggest ways for the company to differentiate the Lumia brand from competitors. As a result we’ve seen a ton of “HERE” services, like HERE Maps, that were initially available only to Nokia devices, but that were later ported across the platform. One of the services that wasn’t available available for free was HERE Drive+, though that is about to change with the announcement of Windows Phone 8.1
Microsoft has just announced that both HERE Drive+ and also HERE Transit will go free for all Windows Phone 8.1 devices. The official statement reads:
Also Windows Phone 8.1 is powered by HERE, but we wanted to make it even better for a mobile lifestyle. This is why we extend the benefits of free voice guided car navigation in 97 countries to everyone. No matter whether you have an entry-level Nokia Lumia 520, a Samsung Ativ S or a HTC 8X, with Windows Phone 8.1 you get HERE Drive+ for free, saving up to €35.
For your device to receive this, you’ll obviously have to be running Windows Phone 8.1, so stay tuned for the update.
