Gold plated HTC One (M8) headed to the Middle East, for a reason
It’s not all the time that you’re able to see a phone that’s truly made of gold, and even if you do, it’s hard to be part of the list of people that can afford one. We remember how HTC launched a gold plated HTC One last year, and how it wowed our own Michael Fisher as he had some hands-on time with it, but that didn’t change the fact that it wasn’t a device that was designed or built for everyone.
The interesting thing is that it seems that this was a success for HTC, as the company has just announced a new gold plated HTC One (M8). The catch is that obviously this device is only slated for certain markets, starting with the Middle East. The company wasn’t specific as to how much the device will cost to whomever has an oil company in his back yard, but it’s clear that it won’t come as an inexpensive product.
The question left is if it’s really worth it to purchase a smartphone at such a price. In the case of timepieces, since these will not fall under planned obsolescence, then it does make sense, but it’s hard to see this making sense for a smartphone that will be dated next year.
