Nokia to dub its next firmware “Blue for Windows Phone 8.1?”
Nokia has already sent-out press invitations for its launch of the future of its Lumia line-up. These would be the first Nokia Lumia smartphones that are pushed to launch from the Microsoft leadership, and given the fact that Microsoft is a software company first, we wonder how this mix will help Nokia differentiate its Windows Phones going forward. Historically Nokia has done the best job in this department, and we get new rumors today about what to expect.
If you remember, the previous Nokia updates were dubbed “Amber” and “Black”. Rumors have Nokia calling its next firmware “Blue”, which falls along with the codename “Windows Phone Blue” that Microsoft has been using. The changes that are rumored for this update, aside from bringing compatibility to Windows Phone 8.1, are advances to the Glance screen, better Bluetooth support, improved camera algorithms, Motion Monitor and more.
We expect to see “Blue” announced at the Microsoft Build conference in the next couple of weeks, though it’s hard to predict if legacy Windows Phones will receive the update immediately. Stay tuned for more rumors on that.
