Last month, we checked out a patent application filed by LG, describing a very unusual wearable. Instead of something easily recognizable as a smartwatch, or even an activity tracker, the product described was more along the lines of a wearable stylus, going flat and wrapping around the user’s wrist like a bracelet. Still, the patent described some ways of giving the band some smartwatch-caliber features, like the ability to see notifications from your phone. Today we get our first look at this product in the flesh, but it’s not everything we were hoping for.
Notably absent is even the slightest hint of any “smart” features here; as near as we can see, this is just a wearable stylus. Don’t get us wrong; that’s interesting in its own right, and while we have some questions about how comfortable the unfolded stylus might be to use, it could be a useful design for users constantly worried about misplacing a more traditional stylus.
Shortly after @evleaks posted the pics up top, Geek.com’s Russell Holly provided the shot below, noting that LG’s handed these out at events in the past. The design is ever so slightly different, but we’re clearly still looking at the same product. This has us wondering: is this even a serious item LG intends to sell, or is this really just trade show swag, and little more than an afterthought from the company?
