Hangouts, other Google services down (no, it’s not just you)

Come back from lunch to find that you’re unable to touch base with all your friends on Google Hangouts? You’re not alone. A disruption is currently affecting a number of Google services, and Google has confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Google’s own status page for its various apps and services shows reported disruptions for Talk and Hangouts, which is probably how most of you are noticing this outage, but that’s not the extent of it. Google also mentions issues affecting Sheets, and while it doesn’t show up here, we’ve personally experienced error messages coming from some other services, like Google Voice.

Right now, things look like they’re well on their way towards getting back to normal; Hangouts access seems to be coming back to some accounts, and those Voice errors have gone away. We’re still waiting to see Talk come back online, but we’re optimistic that the bulk of these issues should be resolved quite swiftly.

Let us know in the comments if you run into any service outages affecting Google services beyond those we’ve already mentioned here.
