The hope that Samsung might bring us a premium edition of the Galaxy S5 may be quickly fading, but there are still other Galaxy S5-family devices we’ve been hoping to see arrive, and some of those models sound like they could still have some life to them. Last year, one of the more unusual GS4 spin-offs we got was the GS4 Zoom (above), sort of a halfway effort between the GS4 Mini and something like the Galaxy Camera. We’ve been anticipating a follow-up for the GS5, and last month spotted a potential candidate in India’s import database, the “Samsung mobile camera” model SM-C115. Now that device is showing up at one benchmark site, giving us a peek at its hardware.
Like the Note 3 Neo, the Galaxy S5 Zoom should run one of those new hexa-core Exynos chips. With a 4.8-inch 720p display, we’d be looking at a larger screen than on the GS4 Zoom. The phone should pack 2GB of RAM, what looks to be 8GB of storage, and support microSD expansion.
What about the meat and potatoes: the camera? The GS5 Zoom appears to be moving to a 20MP sensor, up from last year’s 16MP. These being benchmarks, we really don’t get any insight into optics, sensor size, and other quite important considerations, so there’s still a lot we need to learn about this model before we have a complete picture of it – no pun intended.
