Surface 2 LTE sounds nearly ready to go up for sale

We didn’t really plan for it, but today we find ourselves taking a trip down memory lane to last year’s Windows 8 tablets. First we checked out some evidence suggesting that Nokia’s Lumia 2520 might miss out on a couple of the color options that had been initially teased at launch time, and now we jump on over to Microsoft’s Surface 2, also following-up on some news for last year as we get word that an LTE-equipped version of the Windows RT tablet is incoming.

Microsoft confirmed last fall that an LTE version of the Surface was planned, with the intent of finally making the tablet available sometime in early 2014. With March now here, we may be pushing the limits of that “early” business, but sources have recently been indicating that Microsoft is getting ready to sell AT&T-ready LTE Surface 2 models in its retail stores.

WPCentral reports that it’s seen pictures backing up these claims, but has declined to publish them in hopes to protect its sources. Even without those, this certainly sounds like a believable story, and we’re only surprised we haven’t heard about it happening sooner.

There’s no word yet on pricing for this new LTE model.
