Many of us were expecting MWC 2014 to be full of the innovations that we didn’t get. Smartphones with 2K displays, and significant camera improvements were just some of the things we predicted, and no company delivered. By contrast, the only company that has teased these features on an upcoming handset is Oppo with its Find 7, and a new rumor has just made this device even more attractive.
A leaked image taken by this phone according to the EXIF data claims that the resulting photo is of 8160×6120 resolution. If you do the math, this would require a 50 megapixel sensor in order to reproduce a photo of this size. Surely you can find a lot of purple issues with the photo, but the level of detail is clearly that of a device with a superior camera in pixel count. It’s hard to tell if Oppo will actually release this prototype, or is currently just testing it on Oppo Find 7 hardware.
Whatever the case may be, the company has managed to grab our attention. We’ve been hoping for another device that can compete with the Nokia Lumia 1020 in image quality and features, and extra megapixels are a must for this battle to be fought fairly. The Oppo Find 7 will be announced in Beijing on March 19th, so cross your fingers.
