Dual-booting Windows Phone 8.1-Android handsets to launch this year

Even though Android has always been famous for its ability to allow you to run many other operating systems on a device after a certain amount of tweaks, the smartphone platform that hasn’t been famous for this is Windows Phone. We were all surprised with the announcement of Windows Phone 8.1, and its ability to run on existing Android hardware, though in a radical “wipe-one-install-the-other” approach. What we didn’t expect were dual-booting phones running Android and Windows phone, but that is officially about to happen.

The Times of India is now reporting that Indian OEM Karbonn has signed a licensing agreement that will allow it to sell smartphones that dual-boot Windows Phone 8.1 and Android. The company plans to launch its first Windows Phone 8.1 devices in the next few months, and is later planning to release the dual-booting handsets before the year ends.

At the moment it’s still hard to find a user that this product would target most, but it seems that Karbonn plans to make this a tech-savvy consumer product for professionals. We should learn more about these products in the next coming weeks, and lets hope Karbonn is not the only company that considers this.
