It’s been just under two weeks by now since the first opportunity we had to lay eyes on a seemingly legitimate image of HTC’s M8 (even if we still had our doubts at the time). The days that followed have brought us few additional chances to examine the phone’s hardware from a number of angles, and a couple new shots arrived over the weekend, really highlighting the phone’s metal construction.
Even with the phone’s matte finish, a little bright lighting is all we need to see that metal really shine, and the interplay of light and metal in this new rear shot really helps to highlight the handset’s curves.
One thing we don’t have a great sense of here – even with that hand holding up the phone – is a sense of scale. That’s prompted speculation that we could instead be looking at the HTC M8 Mini, which itself is rumored to have a 4.5-inch display. Really, we’re just not sure, but whatever it is we’re looking at, it sure is a fine match to some of the earlier M8 imagery to arrive.
There is one small inconsistency amongst those pictures, with the dual LED flash depicted as either a joined component, or two distinct pieces; these new shots and some of the other most recent ones reveal the former, while the first M8 shot we saw took the latter direction. Could that be part of the difference between the M8 and Mini? Was one just an earlier stage of design? We can’t say yet, but with invitations to HTC’s launch event expected to go out in just another week or two, we’re looking forward to finding out soon.
