February 24 is the day to look out for if you’re a fan of Samsung’s Galaxy S series of phones (even if you’re not, it’s probably one of the most important phone launches of the year). There has been a lot of speculation regarding the internals of the next generation GS5, and the image below adds some more; it allegedly depicts a part of the official retail box the Galaxy S 5 will ship in, though a regular dose of skepticism might be required.
If it were true, then all those rumors talking about a 5.25-inch QHD (1440 x 2560) resolution Super AMOLED Display were spot on. The processor listed is a quad-core unit clocking at 2.5GHz, making it most likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor (likely the Snapdragon 805). Since we’re seeing LTE at the top, it makes sense that this is the Snapdragon version (as Samsung usually goes with these two in pair); an HSPA variant for other markets will likely be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos SoC.
3GB of RAM is also something predicted by earlier chatter, but the camera is one of 20MP, and not the rumored 16MP ISOCELL shooter we’ve been hearing about. And, of course, the battery is 200mAh smaller than what rumors predicted, at 3,000mAh.
While we can’t verify the veracity of the image itself, it sure looks in line (both iconography, colors, and the rest) with what Samsung’s been using on the GS4 and Note III. What do you think?
