Despite being a solid phone, the HTC One — and its later announced siblings, the One Mini and the One Max — didn’t manage to stop HTC’s ongoing decline, and neither did “The Change” marketing campaign for which the Taiwanese phone-maker enrolled Robert Downey Jr. However, there are still reasons to be excited about 2014 inside HTC, as per this recent Bloomberg report.
A wearable device, probably a smartwatch, is planned by HTC, and should arrive in time for the year-end Holiday season. Will it be too late? Not if it’s innovative enough, and, according to the company’s Chairwoman, Cher Wang, this wearable is something HTC’s been working on for years, being in development. “Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems. These are customer-centric problems“, she said.
An updated version of the One flagship from 2013 — about which we’ve heard a lot, under the codename HTC M8 — alongside rebooted marketing efforts will also, according to the executive, help get the company back on track. “To tell the truth, we never think marketing is that important — this is really not very good”, she added, so expect to see more from HTC in 2014.
We just remembered the HTC You campaign and instantly became nostalgic. How about a solid tablet, HTC?
