Amazon’s tactics to win new customers are truly legendary. Years ago, if you wanted to compare the price tag of one product at different stores, you had to either give them a call or go. A couple of years ago, Amazon introduced the option for you to scan the barcode of a product and do this comparison within the store, but now it seems the company is out for more details.
Amazon’s recent update to its iOS app now includes image detection tools. You’d think that scanning a bar code would be enough, but if there’s anything you see at your friend’s house that you’d like, it’s obvious that the bar code will no longer be there, so this update does make a lot of sense.
This new service is a result of Amazon’s acquisition of SnapTell, and should reach Android customers very soon as well. Just remember that all stores have interesting sales tactics, so before hitting that ‘buy’ button on the app, remember that stores like Best Buy will sometimes equal the Amazon price if you show it to them.
