Even though Jailbreaking has become less and less popular with the launch of iOS 7, up to the point where even Cydia spent some time not being optimized for it, you could still do so with Evasi0n if you were running iOS 7.0.4. Sadly, if you’re interested in keeping your Jailbreak for longer, things are about to get more complicated.
We heard recently that Apple’s iOS 7.1 beta 4 effectively patched the kernel in a way that would partially cripple Evasi0n, though there was still a way to do it. Sadly that ended today as the launch iOS 7.1 beta 5 shows us that aside from some Siri enhancements, it’s also patched the rest of the exploits that enable Evasi0n to work.
Obviously you’re not forced to update to iOS 7.1 when it becomes official. We still haven’t heard any real updates that will make iOS 7.1 something you must have as well, so if Jailbreaking is your thing, keep in mind that 7.0.4 will have to be your way to remain until the developers behind Evasi0n find another exploit. We’ll know more about this once iOS 7.1 becomes official.
