Pebble, Samsung, and Sony, to name a few, already have a jump-start in the wearables sector, specifically in the smartwatch business, but there are still key players that are yet to join the fight. While there are only rumors about an upcoming Apple smartwatch, and Samsung smart glasses, Acer and ASUS are two Taiwanese giants that already made their plans public.
An Acer company executive admitted that wearables were demoed to key customers at CES, and that “the company is still developing certain types of wearable devices. We certainly aim to play a role in the new market“, said Acer’s Peter Shieh, who did not mention whether this wearable would be a smartwatch or not.
As far as ASUS is concerned, “we will put our entire design thought into it“, said the company’s Chairman Jonney Shih, while talking about the upcoming smartwatch. “There are actually many challenges in this area, and I don’t think products that lack special features will be useful. We’ll try to replace your watch by all means“, he added.
Whether these wearables will land at MWC, next month, or later in the year, is yet unknown.
