After spending years waiting for a revamp for Windows Mobile 6.5, we’ll admit that nothing had prepared us for the dramatic change that Windows Phone 7 had to offer. Back in 2010 the need for a third successful player in the mobile space was urgent, and since Pocketnow was born as a “Pocket PC” website more than a decade ago, it was clear that we had high hopes for Microsoft’s next mobile platform. With its great minimalism and social integration, Windows Phone has gathered a rather interesting cult following that has ensured it a future as the world’s third largest mobile operating system today.
Still, it’s been a rocky road to the top. It’s great to see the evolution of Windows Phone over the years, but if any of you remember what it’s been like to see Windows Phone 7 customers shot down by Windows Phone 8, I’m sure we can all agree that there’s a reason why people remain skeptical of adopting the platform. We’ve got to hand it to Microsoft’s mobile team though, as this is not only the boldest revamp we’ve ever seen in history, but also a very efficient and well thought-out one as well.
All that being said, Windows Phone is not perfect. There nature of this beast has made it one of the slowest mobile platforms to gain the updates and the traction that the market demands. Watch today’s Top 5 as we go through our wish list of things we’d love to see Microsoft improve about its beloved mobile operating system for 2014.
