Who’s got wireless charging on their mind? You’d better believe that we do, and we just spent a little time talking to you about what the tech might look like should Apple ever decide to implement it for its own devices. For the time being, if you want an official wireless charging solution (as opposed to something more akin to a third-party hack), your better bets are looking for phones on the WP8 or Android side of the fence. Tonight we learn about a new option for one of our favorite Androids, no longer forcing users to choose between wireless charging and a popular accessory.
We’re talking about Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 which, if you listened to our latest podcast, you’d know we’re still very enthusiastic about. So far, if you wanted wireless charging for your Note 3, you could use Samsung’s official wireless charging backplate. Problem was, that meant that you couldn’t also take advantage of one of Samsung’s cool S-View Flip Covers, with the window for notifications and all.
It took long enough, but now Samsung’s selling a new version of the S-View Flip Cover with Qi-compatible wireless charging support baked right in. While you do get the best of both worlds, that convenience doesn’t come for free: this new cover will set you back around $70 if ordered from Samsung directly. When you consider that the non-wireless-charging Flip Cover was already $60, it doesn’t sound too bad in comparison, but that’s still a pricey accessory on top of an already expensive phone.
Any of you Note 3 owners planning on rushing to pick one of these up?
