Six weeks ago, we came to you with a simple request: tell us what you think were the best smartphones and best tablets of 2013. In the time that’s followed we’ve seen you vote… and vote, and vote, and vote.
This past Friday, we finally closed the polls and got to the business of declaring some winners. With no further ado, let’s start checking out what you chose, beginning with smartphones:
With twenty-three choices, voters had a lot of options to consider. Everybody got some votes (though we have to tip a special last-place hat to the BlackBerry Q10, which managed to get an embarrassing four votes – total), but there were four clear stand-out leaders, each accruing at least ten percent of your ballots.
Third runner-up is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which got 12.48% of your total votes. That’s just inches behind the second runner-up, the Nokia Lumia 1020 with 12.66% of the total – all told, just 13 votes separated the two. Our first runner up did a bit better, with the LG-made Google Nexus 5 grabbing 14.52%.
That makes your number-one smartphone pick for 2013 the HTC One, dominating with 21.05% of the vote.
A lot of you seem to have seen that one coming, at least based on your comments while the poll was still running. Certainly, the HTC One has found itself on a bunch of best-of lists this year; the problem remains that HTC can’t seem to convert this kind of enthusiast interest into mainstream sales. Here’s to hoping that it sees some better luck in 2014!
With smartphones out of the way, let’s look at how our tablets performed:
The tablet race was a lot less competitive than the smartphone contest, which a much more pronounced gap between our winner and the runner-ups. Nevertheless, for the sake of consistency let’s take a look at some of those slates that fell short of the top spot.
Third runner-up is the relatively new Nokia Lumia 2520, pulling-in 7.32% of the vote. Microsoft’s Surface Pro 2 grabs second runner-up honors, at 11.96%, with Apple’s iPad Air taking the first runner-up spot thanks to its 15.89% share. Oh, and last place – for that sweet schadenfreude action? Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, netting itself nine votes total from some very sympathetic fans.
As if that list of runners-up didn’t make this perfectly clear, your choice for the best tablet of 2013 is none other than the ASUS-made Google Nexus 7. With 35.02% of your vote, there’s little need for a recount; your selection was clear.
There you have it! The HTC One and the 2013 Nexus 7 are your favorite devices of the year; a win for Android, perhaps, but more importantly, a win for users.
Are you happy with the way things turned out? Voice your support or displeasure in the comments, and be sure to stick with Pocketnow as we start rolling in to 2014 – because you’ve got a lot of devices to pay attention to before you vote in next year’s Pocketnow Readers’ Choice poll.
