Optical image stabilization slowly becomes a must in smartphone photography. There were rumors that the Note 3 might have it — and it didn’t — and then there were rumors that the Galaxy S 5 might have it, but the are contradictory reports in the issue. Last we heard about the future possible camera on the GS5, it was a rumor saying that OIS might not be in after all. The ISOCELL camera might be in though, as we’ve heard reports, alongside other rumors and leaks trying to predict a certain metal frame for the device, which might be unveiled soon.
The latest report seems to match previous rumors that there will be no OIS camera on the GS5. On one hand, the OIS camera unit and module is said to be rather thick and it would not fit the thin form factor of the device. On the other hand, there are some production volume issues mentioned by the report: as the Galaxy S 5 is expected to be the fastest selling Galaxy S phone ever, camera system manufacturing could not keep up with the demand.
Now, let us know whether not having OIS on a flagship in 2014 is a deal-breaker for you, or not.
