There’s still a lot of controversy regarding how many Galaxy Gear devices Samsung sold, but, if you’re among those who own such a wearable piece of tech, and you’re in the US, you should receive an update that improves the functionality of your smartwatch. This appears to be roughly the same refresh that went out to Galaxy Gear devices in other regions on November 15, and was focused mainly on improving the notification system.
After applying the firmware update your smartwatch should offer you notifications from “most third party apps”, as Samsung puts it, including applications like Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Gmail,Twitter, and others. Previously, the Samsung Galaxy Gear’s notifications were quite limited to a handful of Samsung’s own apps. Aside from notifications, there should be other improvements included for tweaking performance and usability.
