The next best thing after Nexus phones are Google Play Edition phones, which, as a reminder, are popular flagship devices, like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4, that are getting the pure-Android, almost-Nexus-like treatment. And, while many Nexus phones and tablets out there already received their Android 4.4 KitKat treat, it is now time for Google Play Edition phone owners to get the refresh.
According to a recent Google+ post, the update has been confirmed. Android 4.4 KitKat is being pushed out to Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S 4 and HTC One devices, and it will bring the usual goodies that Nexus phone owners are already enjoying. You should soon receive a notification for the refresh, but you can also go into the Settings to manually check for its existence.
The next logical step will be for regular GS4s and Ones to get their refresh, and we already heard the two OEMs planning for a release early next year. Until then, we’ll just envy Google Play Edition phone owners, or get our custom ROM fix to get us through the waiting.
