Google welcomes the arrival of Newsstand with free/cheap magazine deals

Earlier this week, we saw Google overhaul how it handles periodicals in the Play store, mixing a bit of Currents in with Magazines and delivering unto us the Play Newsstand. And while that may be very interesting news if you’re big into using your Android tablet to keep up with your reading, we can understand how it might seem a little underwhelming to those of you who haven’t yet caught the digital publication bug. To help introduce you to what you’ve been missing, Google has a little promotional offer going for the Newsstand launch, selling a whole bunch of magazines for cheap or free.

There are dozens of titles to look through, all recent issues. Many can be had for just a dollar, though there are a fair number of outright free offers mixed in with those – and those free titles cover everything from gaming, to crafts, to health and exercise.

That said, keep your wits about you, because quite a few of the so-called “discounted” issues we looked at don’t appear to be any cheaper than what those mags regularly sell for – so double-check those prices before you jump in, convinced that you’re getting a great deal. Still, can’t beat the straight-up free ones.
