Sony’s latest smartphones haven’t really scored the company a ton of attention – at least in the US, that’s no doubt due to Sony’s general lack of interest in trying to promote its phones here – but that hasn’t stopped it from putting out some seriously impressive handsets. We were just looking at its efforts to get the Xperia Z1f out on the global stage as the Z1s, but now we’re aiming our sights a little farther out, with the discovery of a metal frame that sure seems to be destined for a future Xperia model.
While there are certainly similarities here to existing Xperia components, this metal piece doesn’t appear to be an exact match to any current model. That has us wondering just what this might be intended for – it’s more than a bit early for another flagship. There’s no real sense of scale in these images, but reportedly this component is about the same size as the Z1 – so probably another screen in the five-inch range.
Maybe we’re looking at what will eventually become an early 2014 model. Maybe Sony has additional plans for the Z1 series beyond the Z1f/s. For the moment, the discovery of this part really just leaves us with more questions than answers. With any luck, we’ll be returning to it shortly enough, and hopefully with some explanations in hand.
